Financial Aid

All students requesting financial aid or who may be interested in research or teaching assistantships must complete the Financial aid application forms including the application for federal work-study, and submit these with their application to the Ph.D. Program. Before advancement to candidacy, students must register for 12 credits of coursework per semester and not be working full-time to be eligible for financial assistance. After advancement to candidacy, students are not eligible for any financial assistance if they are working full-time or if they register for less than nine credits per semester in the fall and spring terms, or less than six hours in the summer term.

At present, the College of Health and Urban Affairs will support five doctoral students for a period of three years with a financial aid package worth $60,000. This translates as a Graduate Assistantship of $16,000 per year, as well as full tuition waiver (approximately $4000 per year). Eligible students must meet all admissions requirement, including a minimum combined GRE score of 1120, and maintain good progress in all their coursework. In return for this financial support, students are expected to work for approximately 10 hours per week per semester with selected faculty members, or teach an undergraduate level course per semester. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Students with a minimum combined GRE score of 1300 are eligible for the prestigious Presidential Scholarships, which provide a stipend of $20,000 per year. Other funding opportunities are available for qualified students: information from the FIU Financial Aid Office.
